As the fleet settles down after a fine start in about 18 knots of NW breezes, we did not receive a full set of positions - only 20 of the 33 boats sent reported positions at 07.00UTC (GMT) this morning. We hope that this is just a case of the crews settling into their routines ...
It is interesting that it appears that a number of boats are making quite a lot of "Westing" and I wonder how this will affect them as the Southerlies that are forecast, arrive. Time will no doubt tell...!
The daily positions are calculated based on the elased time divided by the distance closed towards the finish and then multiplied by the boat's handicap. This is obviously not 100% accurate but it does give an idea of how the boats are doing against each other.
